چکیده

The ascending pharyngeal artery of the dog was investigated by means of the acryl plastic injection method. This artery usually arose from the external carotid artery, sometimes from the occipital, the posterior auricular, or rarely the ascending palatine of the lingual artery. It ran forwards between the vagus and hypoglossal nerves and continued anteromedially up to the posterolateral wall of the pharynx at the superior margin of the thyropharyngeus muscle, in contact with the inferomedial end of the tympanic bulla. En route it gave rise to the thyropharyngeal, the stylopharyngeal and the styloglossal branches, sometimes additionally the inferior cervical, the digastric and the palatine branches, although all these branches were not observed when it arose from the lingual. It reached to the inferomedial end of the foramen caroticum extemum after giving rise to twigs to the pharyngeal mucosa between the pharyn-

The ascending pharyngeal artery: branches, anastomoses, and clinical significance.

Neuroradiologists generally do not fully appreciate the importance of the territory of the ascending pharyngeal artery. The ascending pharyngeal artery is a small but important artery that supplies multiple cranial nerves and anastomotic channels to the anterior and posterior cerebral circulations. Several disease processes in the head and neck involve the ascending pharyngeal artery. To evalua...

An Anatomical Study of the Arterial Supply to the Soft Palate

The arterial blood supply to the soft palate is traditionally described as being from the ascending palatine (branch of the facial artery), greater palatine (branch from the third part of the maxillary artery), and ascending pharyngeal (branch of the external carotid artery) arteries (Moore et al., 2009; Standring, 2009). Variations to this description include additional contributions from the ...

Cerebral arterial gas embolism in swine. Comparison of two sites for air injection

Cerebral arterial gas embolism is a risk in diving and occurs as a complication in surgery and interventional radiology. Swine models for cerebral arterial gas embolism have been used in the past. However, injection of air into the main artery feeding the pig brain - the ascending pharyngeal artery - might be complicated by the presence of the carotid rete, an arteriolar network at the base of ...

Collateral circulation via the ascending pharyngeal artery arising from the internal carotid artery.

Artery Arising from the Internal Carotid Artery I read with interest the article by Chan et al. They stated that there was a rare congenital anastomosis between the vertebral artery (VA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) with an absence of communication between the common carotid and cervical ICA. I, however, diagnose that there was an acquired occlusion of the ICA at its origin with a developm...
